|Have you ever wondered if you’re using the right products for your skin type? This month we’re looking at the three main skin types and our top aestheticians at Gotham Skincare are advising what ingredients and products you should be using for each.
Cleanser: People with oily skin should use an oil free cleanser- gel cleansers often work well with this skin type. If you have acne, try using a cleanser with acne fighting ingredients such as salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide or glycolic acid. We recommend Obagi CLENZIderm Dailycare Foaming Cleanser with Salicylic Acid; a light-weight, effective cleanser to unclog pores and wash away oil and dead skin.
Moisturizer: If you have high sebum production, you probably don’t need a heavy creamy moisturizer, a lightweight serum would be much more beneficial. Otherwise, use an oil-free moisturizer that won’t cause you to break out. We recommend Nia24 Skin Strengthening Complex, a light-weight daily treatment moisturizer.
Cleanser: Those with combination skin can use almost any cleanser. It’s best to use one that tackles whatever your main skin concern is. We recommend Obagi NuDerm Foaming Gel, a daily gentle cleanser that could be used twice a day.
Moisturizer: It can be confusing when you have both oily and dry patches on your skin. If you are prone to breakouts, stick with an oil-free moisturizer. Make sure to use a light hydrator day and night to help your skin find balance. We recommend Obagi NuDerm Hydrate, a facial moisturizer with Hydromanil that provides all-day protection and is suitable for all skin types.
Cleanser: Look for a milk, cream or oil based cleanser that will wash away dirt and oil without stripping your skin of necessary oils. We recommend Nia 24 Gentle Cleansing Cream. Washing your face once a day is enough. Doing a thorough cleansing before bed means that you can simply rinse it with warm water in the morning.
Moisturizer: For dry skin it is important to find a product that hydrates effectively and keeps moisture locked in. Your first step should be to find a gentle cleanser and follow up with a hydrating serum. Once the serum has sunk in, apply moisturizer. We recommend Nia 24 Intensive Recovery Complex, a rich cream formula for daily hydration.
